NADA, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is excited to announce the new 1-100 ENERGY STAR Score for Vehicle Dealerships, which will allow dealers to apply for ENERGY STAR certification.

The score is nearly ready for its debut, but the EPA needs industry feedback to refine the score.

On Monday, Aug. 28, the EPA will host a webinar offering dealerships an overview of the data used to develop the score, the proposed 1-100 scoring model, how dealerships can preview their score, and how to submit comments and feedback.

What is the ENERGY STAR certification?

Buildings, including dealerships, earn the certification by installing energy-saving practices and infrastructure to decrease fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

How will this help dealers?

Dealers are committed to enhancing the local communities in which they live and work, including serving as environmental stewards. This award proves this commitment.

ENERGY STAR certification is recognized as the gold standard with more than 90% of households recognizing the award. Certification rewards dealerships for their efforts consistent with other industry sectors including OEMs, schools, government, hospitality, retail, banking and finance.

Additionally, the certification provides dealers with data to implement cost-effective approaches to managing energy use in their buildings and operations. Dealers will be able to compare their energy performance with other dealerships nationwide using a simple, easy-to-understand score.

How can you obtain ENERGY STAR certification?

The EPA will review feedback this fall and release the complete score in December, which will allow dealerships to apply for certification. Dealerships with energy performance scores of 75 and higher will be eligible to earn the ENERGY STAR designation and will receive a certificate of achievement.
