There are many women in the automotive retail industry doing extraordinary things and Women’s History Month is a time to recognize their leadership, ingenuity and impact. 2026 NADA Vice Chairman Sandy Angello is one of those women.
The Vice President/Dealer Operator of Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury, Md., didn’t enter the business because of a love for cars. But she stayed because of the energy, the competition and the opportunity to grow. What began at age 15 answering phones turned into a career spanning five decades—one defined by adaptability, leadership and relentless drive.
From stepping in as a teenage F&I fill-in to becoming a used car manager while pregnant, to ultimately leading nine rooftops and growing a team from under 100 employees to more than 600, her story is a masterclass in working hard, seizing opportunity and delivering results.
But her message goes beyond personal success.
Today, more women than ever are shaping the future of automotive retail—leading stores, driving strategy and elevating the customer experience. Angello’s journey is proof that this industry rewards those who are willing to step up, learn fast and lead with purpose.
Her advice is simple: get in, get involved and don’t underestimate what is possible.
This video highlights her story, her mission and the pathways she’s helping to pave for the next generation of women in the industry.
