September is National Service Dog Month, and NADA is proud to celebrate the dogs who help people with disabilities lead more independent lives. There’s plenty to wag about, but the impact of these partnerships is serious.
Since 1975, Canine Companions has provided expertly trained service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities, as well as facility dogs to professionals in health care, criminal justice and education. The dogs and ongoing support are provided at no cost to recipients.
The NADA Foundation has been part of that mission since 2004, when its Frank E. McCarthy Memorial Program began supporting Canine Companions. Since 2012, an annual auction at NADA Show has given dealers another way to lend a paw. Together, those efforts have contributed more than $1.6 million and helped pair 32 people with service dogs. That’s a lot of lives changed, one partnership at a time. Read how the relationship began.
