On May 21, U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.) sent a letter to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-Texas) and Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) to urge the inclusion of repealing the 12% federal excise tax (FET) on heavy-duty trucks in an upcoming infrastructure plan. The FET delays the purchase of new heavy-duty trucks, preventing cleaner, more efficient and safer trucks from operating on roadways. ATD applauds Rep. LaMalfa for his continued leadership on repealing the burdensome FET. Click here to read Rep. LaMalfa’s letter.

Next week, members of Congress will return home for a week-long Memorial Day district work period from May 28 to June 3. Recess periods are an excellent opportunity for dealers to engage with their members of Congress and discuss issues of importance to the trucking industry, including repeal of the FET. Dealers can meet their member of Congress at the dealership or at their local office.
