ATD Dealership Workforce Study
Now Available: 2022 ATD National & Regional Trends in Compensation, Benefits & Retention Report
The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and American Truck Dealers (ATD) has prepared the "2022 ATD Dealership Workforce Study and Truck Retail: National & Regional Trends in Compensation, Benefits & Retention Report" to assist its dealer members in being as efficient as possible in the operation of their dealerships.
With thanks to our participating dealerships, we collected and analyzed 2021 calendar year payroll data which provided us with salary, demographics and turnover data along with responses to a benefits questionnaire. The questionnaire allowed us to analyze health plan benefits offered, retirement plans, paid time off, hiring trends, Electric Vehicle certifications and more.
All this data is presented in this latest report that is now available for purchase to all members who were not able to participate.
Compensation: 2021 average weekly earnings in participating commercial truck dealerships increased 11% compared to 2020.
Headcount: After a 10 percent reduction in employee headcount during the Pandemic, the average year-end headcount for truck dealerships participating in this year’s Study increased from 60 employees in 2020 to 63 employees in 2021.
Benefits: 67 percent of all dealerships offered Health Savings Accounts (HSA) in 2021 and 58 percent who offered HSAs made contributions to those accounts.
Demographics: The percentage of Gen Z employees hired by commercial truck dealerships in 2021 was 25 percent and Gen Y (Millennials) was 42 percent of all new hires.
Turnover: Annualized employee turnover across all dealership departments dropped to 24% in 2021.
