NADA Applauds Senate for Passage of Legislation to Stop California from Banning Gas Cars
TYSONS, Va. (May 22, 2025)—The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) released the following statement in response to the Senate’s passage of H.J.Res. 88, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) joint resolution to revoke EPA’s waiver for California’s Advanced Clean Cars II rule, which would ban the sale of gas and hybrid vehicles:
“NADA applauds the Senate for its passage of legislation which stops California regulators from banning gas and hybrid vehicles in twelve states. This unrealistic mandate, coupled with an insufficient and unreliable charging infrastructure, would have drastically reduced consumer choice and raised prices for new and used cars and trucks for all Americans.”
America’s franchised dealers commend Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) for their leadership stopping the harmful California mandate and passing this pro-consumer legislation.
The legislation passed on a bipartisan basis by a vote of 51-44. On May 1, H.J.Res. 88 passed the House by a vote of 246-164, with 35 House Democrats supporting the legislation. H.J.Res. 88 now heads to the White House, where President Trump is expected to sign this legislation.
