During last year’s hurricane season, the coastal communities of Florida bore the brunt of three of the strongest hurricanes in recent history. One of the three storms, Hurricane Milton, made landfall near the Tampa Bay area and ripped right through west-central Florida, impacting the lives of thousands of Floridians and causing costly destruction along its path.

In the aftermath of the hurricanes, the courageous first responders of the South Pasadena Fire Department answered the call, working around the clock, addressing safety issues and executing search and rescue missions to help those in need. However, they needed to rely on neighboring municipalities' vessels for high-water rescue efforts due to a lack of equipment for these missions.

Seeing the need of the communities they serve, St. Petersburg’s Maher Chevrolet decided to support the South Pasadena Fire Department’s heroic efforts by delivering a state-of-the-art inflatable rescue boat this past winter.

“We are deeply committed to giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years,” said Greg Soulliere, executive manager of Maher Chevrolet. “Providing this boat to the South Pasadena Fire Department is just one way we can help ensure the safety of our neighbors when it matters most.”

The inflatable rescue boat, specifically designed for swift water operations, is equipped to navigate flooded areas, assist stranded individuals and carry out life-saving missions in challenging conditions.

South Pasadena Fire Chief David Mixson expressed his gratitude for the generous donation.

“This new rescue boat significantly enhances our department’s response capabilities.," Mixson said. "We are incredibly thankful to Maher Chevrolet for recognizing our need and stepping up to help us better protect the community.”

In addition, Maher Chevrolet purchased a set of stairs for the department’s new high-water vehicle that will assist rescue victims in reaching safety.

With Florida frequently experiencing hurricanes and tropical storms, these donations will come at a critical time for the community’s preparedness, and they will be put to good use, saving the lives of grateful Floridians.
