L25_Odometer_lawThis guide covers dealership responsibilities under the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act (Odometer Law), which aims to reduce odometer tampering and to protect against motor vehicles with altered or reset odometers. The guide specifically addresses:
• Odometer tampering prevention.
• Proper odometer service, repair, and replacement.
• Required disclosures for motor vehicle transfers.
• Enforcement procedures, sanctions, and penalties.

The guide also reviews regulatory mandates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including a 2019 rule that provided for electronic (e-odometer) disclosures and reduced the odometer disclosure exemption for older vehicles from 10 model years and older to 20 model years and older.
