ATD hosted a virtual legislative briefing on June 16, 2020, to kick off “Suspend the FET Week” which started June 15. ATD is leading the charge on urging Congress to suspend the 12% federal excise tax (FET) on heavy-duty trucks in an upcoming economic recovery bill. Heavy-duty truck sales have been hit hard by the pandemic and are predicted to decline by 50% this year. Temporarily suspending the FET would help spur truck sales and jumpstart the trucking industry, protect dealership and trucking-related jobs, and provide economic stimulus throughout the country.
ATD is organizing a grassroots campaign with state dealer association executives (ATAEs), ATD Board of Line Representatives and select truck dealers to contact members of Congress and urge their support for FET suspension. The briefing covers how to schedule and plan effective virtual meetings with members of Congress.
