Regulatory Affairs
NADA’s Regulatory Affairs Group protects and promotes franchised car and truck dealership interests before federal agencies and the judiciary.
NADA’s Regulatory Affairs department advocates for the interests of dealers and their customers before federal regulatory agencies and in court and educates dealers on how regulatory actions and policies affect their daily operations.
Through sustained engagement with government agencies and evaluation of regulatory proposals, Regulatory Affairs helps shape the complex federal rules impacting franchised dealers in such areas as financing, consumer protection, advertising, data privacy, tax, trade, environment, and safety. Regulatory Affairs advances dealer priorities through meetings with agency leaders, testifying at hearings, and submitting written comments in response to rulemakings.
Regulatory Affairs keeps NADA members informed on regulatory developments – often with updates from the regulators themselves. And we provide extensive, practical guidance on what the latest changes mean for dealers and how to comply.
When regulations are overreaching or detrimental, judicial challenge may be appropriate, and Regulatory Affairs leads NADA’s challenges of agency rules in federal court. Regulatory Affairs also supports the efforts of state-level dealer-associations to protect franchised dealers nationwide.

About Regulatory Affairs
NADA’s Regulatory Affairs Group protects and promotes franchised car and truck dealership interests before the federal administrative agencies. Each year, Regulatory Affairs analyzes and engages on hundreds of federal regulatory issues and proposals, evaluating them for potential dealership impacts. Regulatory Affairs also helps to formulate NADA policy positions on those issues and, through written comments, testimony and, if necessary, legal action, advocates dealership interests before the federal agencies and judiciary.
The Regulatory Affairs Group coordinates its activities with NADA's Legislative Affairs group on subjects of common concern, works closely with state and metro dealer associations, and regularly engages with other industry trade associations. Regulatory Affairs also prepares compliance-oriented guides, bulletins and articles, conducts presentations to dealers and dealership compliance professionals and directly provides compliance advice to dealerships.
