Background
In January 2007, NADA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star Program jointly announced an Energy Stewardship Initiative to help improve the energy efficiency of dealership facilities and operations.
This initiative offers data, tools, and strategies to help dealerships implement a variety of cost-effective retrofit and new construction strategies involving energy efficient lighting, climate controls, equipment, and building design as well as improved energy practices and technologies. It builds on the jointly developed A Dealer Guide to Energy Star: Putting Energy into Profits, available online from NADA's Management Education Catalog.
The Energy Stewardship Initiative (PDF) challenges dealerships to achieve energy savings of at least 10 percent annually by using the data, documents, and tools found at www.energystar.gov/autodealers. The Initiative will recognize dealerships that achieve significant annual energy savings.
