NADA Launches Online Job Board

New Web Site Allows NADA Members to Post Career Opportunities Online

Nothing is more important to a dealership’s success than the people who run it. And, with more than 100,000 jobs available at new car and truck dealerships today, there’s no shortage of opportunities in the retail-auto industry.

NADA’s new online career center, Automotive Careers Online, proves that recruiting talented dealership employees is as simple as pointing and clicking. The site provides dealers with a quick and cost-effective way to post job opportunities. (For pricing information, see Products & Rates). And there is no charge for members who want to view applications and receive e-mail alerts when qualified candidates post a resume.

What’s more, the site is free to job seekers. It gives applicants the option to upload a resume and cover letter as well as sign up for e-mail alerts when new jobs are posted. Jobs advertised on Automotive Careers Online are also listed on several other job sites, such as Indeed.com, Googlebase.com, and SimplyHired.com, giving them more visibility across the Web.

“With a focus on dealership careers, the Web site offers both job candidates and employers an easy way to connect online,” says NADA Chairman Annette Sykora.

Driving Profitability

Like many of the programs NADA offers, Automotive Careers Online was developed with dealer profitability in mind. According to a study conducted for the association, brand and dealership size are important drivers of profitability, but operations and dealership personnel – what happens within a dealership’s four walls – are key.

John Lyboldt, NADA Vice President of Dealership Operations, says building a talented staff is one of the most important things a dealer can do for their bottom line. Automotive Careers Online offers competitive prices on monthly job postings, which can be purchased individually or in packages of multiple postings.

“Having the right people in the right positions makes the difference,” says Lyboldt. “A presence on the Web allows people to look at our industry and say, ‘What career opportunities are out there?’”

Job Seekers Wanted

A Harris poll sponsored by the educational consortium Automotive Retailing Today shows there are nearly 109,000 careers available at U.S. dealerships today. And they’re not limited to one department. Many dealerships need talented staff in sales, administration, parts and service.

Automotive Careers Online breaks down opportunities by department and location, making it easy for job seekers to find positions that match their qualifications. Unlike old-fashioned newspaper ads, jobs posted to Automotive Careers Online will be visible by people all over the country. For dealers, that will mean choosing from a much broader pool of candidates and greater chance of finding a match, says David Penske, president of David Penske Chevrolet, King of Prussia, Pa.

Penske says he began advertising positions at his dealership online because he was unsatisfied with the return on his investment in local newspaper ads.

“How many times do you put an ad in the newspaper and you never know if there’s a match?” he says. “Young people today have a tendency to use the Internet as a place to look for just about anything, including employment. We’re starting to get more matches from the Internet than newspapers.”
