James A. Auffenberg, Jr., president of St. Clair Auto Mall, O’Fallon, Ill., represents that state’s franchised new-car dealers on the National Automobile Dealers Association’s board of directors.
Auffenberg, who became a franchised new-car dealer in 1976, has served on numerous dealer councils and advertising boards. He also has been a board member of the American International Automobile Dealers Association for 15 years and served as that association’s chairman in 2002. Auffenberg has also been a board member of the Illinois Automobile Dealers Association for nearly 15 years and served on its executive committee in addition to other positions.
Active in his community, Auffenberg served on the board of the St. Louis Red Cross from 1997 to 2003 and the St. Louis United Way from 2003 to 2009. He has been a member of the board of trustees for McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., since 1996.
Auffenberg earned a bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif., and a master’s of business administration from the University of California.
He resides in Swansea, Ill., with his wife Ellen. He has three children: Claire, Matt and Michael. Michael Auffenberg and Matt Auffenberg are involved with the family business as internet manager and general manager, respectively.
