John P. McEleney president of McEleney Motors, Inc. and Southgate Motors, Ltd., Clinton, Iowa, represents the state’s franchised new-car dealers on the National Automobile Dealers Association’s board of directors.

A member of the NADA since 1976, McEleney is currently chairman of the association's Industry Relations Committee, a director on the Guide Company board, and a director on the Insurance Trust Board. Previously, he served as NADA's region III vice chairman and on the Government Relations, Industry Relations, and Public Affairs committees. McEleney was a member of the Buick National Dealer Council and served on the Pontiac National Dealer Council in 1988 and became chairman in 1992. He was vice chairman of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association in 2000 and chairman in 2001. McEleney also served as a member of the GM Policy Board.
 
Active in his community, McEleney has served as vice chairman at Mt. St. Clare College. He was a member of the Mercy Health Systems and director of the YMCA.

McEleney graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1973 with a BA in Marketing. He resides in Fulton, Iowa where he is married with two kids. For leisure activities, McEleney enjoys golf and travel.
         
The National Automobile Dealers Association, founded in 1917 and based in McLean, Va., represents more than 20,000 franchised new car and truck dealers holding nearly 43,000 separate franchises, domestic and international.
