George M. Gorno, president of Gorno Automotive Group, Woodhaven, Mich., represents metropolitan Detroit's franchised new-car dealers on the National Automobile Dealers Association's board of directors.
Gorno serves on the association’s IT Committee. Gorno is a past president of the Detroit Automobile Dealers Association, past chairman of the North American International Auto Show and the Ford Credit Committee of the Ford National Dealer Council. Currently, he is director of the Metro Detroit Ford Dealers Association and the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association.
Active in his community, Gorno currently serves as Board of Governors for Northwood University. He is also on the Board of Trustees for Henry Ford Community College and Henry Ford Hospital.
In 1995, Gorno was a winner of the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award, sponsored annually by Time, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and NADA to honor professional excellence and community leadership.
Gorno earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwood University, in Midland, Mich.
Gorno and his wife, Heidie, reside in Gross Ile, Mich., and they have four children and six grandchildren. Three of his children, Cynthia, George Jr., and Anthony, are involved in the operation of Gorno’s dealership.
The National Automobile Dealers Association, founded in 1917 and based in McLean, Va., represents more than 20,000 new car and truck dealers, holding over 43,000 separate franchises, both domestic and import.
