Gene W. Smith Jr., president Gene Smith Inc., Elk City, Okla., represents that state’s franchised new-car dealers on the association’s board of directors.

An automobile dealer and member of NADA since 1981, Smith currently serves on NADA’s ATAE-NADA and Nominating  committees. Previously, he served on the Regulatory Affairs Committee and two terms as the chairman of the Oklahoma Automobile Dealers Association from 2000-2002. He currently serves on the association’s Dealers Election Action Committee and was also recently appointed to the DEAC Board of Trustees.

Active in his community, Smith has served on the Great Plains Regional Medical Center Board of Directors since 1988. He served five years in the U.S. Air Force, receiving several medals for service in the Vietnam and Korea wars. In 1980, Smith was named “Boss of the Year” by the Elk City Jaycees, and in 1997 he received the “President’s Award” from the OADA.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1966.
