Clifton C. “Cliff” Goodwin III, president of Goodwin Honda-Mitsubishi-Volkswagen in Sumter, S.C., represents that state’s franchised new-car dealers on the National Automobile Dealers Association’s board of directors.
A franchised dealer since 1991, Goodwin has served as the South Carolina chairman of the Dealers Election Action Committee since 1994 and is past president of the Sumter Automobile Dealers Association. He also served as president of the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association from 1991-1992.
Active in his community, Goodwin is a past president of the local Rotary Club, of which he has been a member since 1971. He served in the South Carolina Air National Guard from 1970 to 1976. In 2006, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Sumter Chamber of Commerce and was named a finalist for the TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year award.
Goodwin attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., and received a bachelor’s degree in 1970. He graduated from the General Motors Dealer Institute in Flint, Mich., in 1971.
Goodwin lives in Sumter with his wife, Vicki. They have two children, Beth Turner and Jennifer Carpenter. Carpenter works in the family dealership as the Business Development Manager.
