Responding to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Foundation, working with the National Automobile Dealers Association, created a fund to assist the families of victims.

Once the Foundation helped meet the immediate needs with grants of nearly $700,000, the balance of over $1 million was used to establish the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation Survivors Relief Fund under the auspices of Scholarship America to help meet the long-term educational needs of the victims’ dependents, be it to attend a college or a technical, vocational or professional school in the United States.

The fund has already provided $527,700 in scholarship aid to 87 students from the greater New York City and Washington, D.C. areas.

The organizations receiving Survivors Relief Fund contributions to date include:

• Uniformed Firefighters Association Widow's and Children's Fund — Benefits the dependents of firefighters killed in the line of duty.
• New York Times 9/11 Neediest Fund — Distributes donations to social service agencies and foundations that represent the uniformed services.
• Pentagon Victims Fund Army Emergency Relief Organization — Assists the dependents of Army personnel killed at the Pentagon.
• Pentagon Assistance Fund Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society — Provides assistance to the families of Navy and Marine Corps personnel killed during the Pentagon attack.
• World Trade Center/Pentagon Fund Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund — Provides assistance to civilian federal employees and their families.
• Safe Horizon World Trade Center Relief Fund — Provides housing, funds, relocation and counseling services for those working near the World Trade Center.
• Robin Hood Relief Fund - Works with community-based programs in New York City to assist lower-income victims and their families.
