Responding to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Foundation, working with the National Automobile Dealers Association, created a fund to assist the families of victims. Once the Foundation helped meet the immediate needs with grants of nearly $700,000, the balance of over $1 million was used to establish the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation Survivors Relief Fund under the auspices of Scholarship America to help meet the long-term educational needs of the victims’ dependents, be it to attend a college or a technical, vocational or professional school in the United States. In 2006, scholarships totaling $56,600 were provided to 10 students. The fund is expected to continue for 25 years, and although it is in its infancy, it has already provided $241,600 in scholarship aid to 36 students from the greater New York City and Washington, D.C. areas.
