New Orleans Lusher Charter School Project

Commitment to Community:  Automobile Dealers Contribute to Restore Athletic Fields in New Orleans

As part of the 2009 convention's "Commitment to Community" theme, the National Auto Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF) made a $400,000 contribution to the Brees Dream Foundation in May 2008 to help restore the athletic fields at Lusher Charter School, the largest public high school in New Orleans. The school is still trying to recover from damage sustained by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Donations from NADCF and NADA members are helping to resod acres of grass, build bleachers, a scoreboard, and nighttime lighting.

Founded by New Orleans Saints quarter back Drew Brees and his wife, the Brees Dream Foundation is involved in many aspects of the city's recovery, including renovation of the school's fields.

And we are pleased we will be returning here next January for our 92nd annual convention. Quite appropriately, the theme will be “Committed to Community” – something new-car and -truck dealers across America live every day.”

Lusher high school offers an award-winning performing arts program in creative writing, dance, drama, music and visual arts. The school offers a strong athletic program with 22 teams and numerous other extracurricular opportunities. Lusher high school will serve 1,550 students during the 2008-2009 school year.
